Who’s Ruining Whom, Anyway?

Dan Quayle is probably right when he accuses Hollywood of being run by a “cultural elite,” but it’s the political elite that’s responsible for the nation’s current ill state, a political elite that for 14 years has favored monopolies, pollution, legalized white-collar theft and welfare for the rich.
Hollywood may not be helping instill the positive values that Quayle longs for, but it isn’t guilty of creating the debt that now threatens the nation’s public schools, its hospitals and the general well-being of its citizens.
What the vice president and his ilk really want is for the Hollywood elite to join the Washington elite in creating the illusion that all is right with the world.
