Holland defeated the U.S. men’s volleyball team, 15-8, 15-4, 17-15, in the first round of the World League playoffs Saturday in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
BASKETBALL
Vanessa Nygaard of Carlsbad scored 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds but it wasn’t enough to stop the New Jersey Monarchs from beating the San Diego Police Athletic team, 74-67, in the first day of action at Junior Olympic Championships in Clovis, N.M.
