A Santa Paula man was in fair condition Monday at Ventura County Medical Center after being shot in the head by someone in a passing vehicle near Briggs Road, Ventura police said.

Phillip Juanes, 26, was driving east at 12:30 a.m. Monday on California 126 when a car came alongside his and someone shot a single bullet at him, Sgt. Larry Latton said.

Latton said police have no suspects in the attempted murder case, and the investigation is continuing.

Santa Paula police were also investigating a drive-by shooting Monday in which an unidentified 31-year-old man was shot in the arm as he rode a bicycle down the 500 block of Bradley Street. Santa Paula police said the two shootings appeared to be unrelated.

The man, who police have not identified, was riding north on Bradley Street at 4:35 p.m. Sunday when a vehicle traveled past him on the other side of the street, Sgt. Mike Saviers said.

“As the vehicle passed him he said he heard a pop noise and then felt a pain in his left arm,” Saviers said.

The victim continued cycling to his home, and was later transported by family members to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Police could not say if the incident was gang-related.
