Stylish Ballerina: Another Russian ballerina who also had an acting career, Tamara Toumanova, will be honored Sunday at the Severin Wunderman Museum in Irvine. She will receive the museum’s annual Jean Cocteau International Style Award, an honor created in 1989 on the centenary of Cocteau’s birth. Michael York, Tommy Tune and Gian-Carlo Menotti have previously received the honor, given to individuals “whose personal style and participation in the arts reflects the spirit of Cocteau.” Toumanova appeared in several Hollywood films, including 1944’s “Days of Glory,” opposite Gregory Peck, and 1956’s “Invitation to the Dance,” with Gene Kelly. Cocteau is said to have admired her work and chose her to star in his ballet “Phedre.”
