PAL Team Ousted from Junior Games

The San Diego Police Athletic League girls’ team led by a point at halftime Thursday, but wound up falling to Utah, 66-61, in the losers’ bracket of the Junior Olympic national basketball tournament in Clovis, N.M.

San Diego finished ninth in the 48-team tournament. Lorraine Watson of Monte Vista High led San Diego with 13 points and six rebounds and Vanessa Nygaard of Carlsbad added 12 points and six rebounds.

FOOTBALL

Doug Aronson, a guard who completed his eligibility with San Diego State in 1986, has signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, the NFL team announced Thursday.

Aronson, 27, has played for the World League’s Orlando Thunder the past two seasons. He began his NFL career by playing two games with the Cincinnati Bengals in 1987 and also participated in training camps with the Cleveland Browns and San Francisco 49ers.
