The Houston Rockets acquired center Greg Kite from the Orlando Magic for two second-round draft choices. The club also extended qualifying contract offers to restricted free agents Matt Bullard, Carl Herrera, Avery Johnson and David Wood, but chose not to extend a qualifying offer to small forward Buck Johnson, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Kite, 30, is a native of Houston and has played for five teams in nine NBA seasons. The Magic’s need for Kite dwindled when they drafted 7-foot Shaquille O’Neal in the first round of last week’s NBA draft. Orlando will get the higher of Houston’s or Boston’s second-round pick in 1993 and the higher of Houston’s or Cleveland’s second-round pick in 1996.
