Agincourt lost the battle but won the war when, after finishing a close second in a stretch duel with favored Three Peat, he was placed first by the Belmont Park stewards in the $200,000 Dwyer Stakes.

Three Peat, ridden by Chris Antley, was placed second for interfering with Agincourt. It was six lengths to Windundermywings in the six-horse field of 3-year-olds.

The victory was the second in six starts for the son of Capote from the Conquistador Cielo mare Conquistador Blue.

It was the second stakes victory for Agincourt, who won the Belmont Futurity last fall in his third lifetime start.

Agincourt returned $18.40, $5.40 and $2.80 as the fourth choice. Three Peat paid $2.80 and $2.20 and Windundermywings returned $2.60.

England Expects, ridden by Jerry Bailey, won the 5 1/2-furlong Tremont Breeders’ Cup for 2-year-olds. England Expects won by 8 1/2 lengths in 1:03 1/5 and returned $6.60, $3.40 and $2.80 as the favorite.

Alydeed, ridden by Craig Perret, won the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine in Toronto by nearly 12 lengths in a slow 2:04 3/5 for the 1 1/4 miles.

Alydeed returned $2.20, $2.20 and $2.10, the lowest prices since 1960, when Victoria Park paid $2.10, $2.20 and $2.10. In 1934, Horometer paid $2.10, $2.05 and $2.05.

Grand Hooley finished second, paying $3.80 and $2.10. Benburb was third, paying $2.10.

The victory boosted Alydeed’s lifetime winnings to $613,312 and gives him a chance to win the $1-million bonus from the Bank of Montreal if he wins the remaining two jewels of the Canadian Triple Crown--the Breeders’ Stakes on July 26 in Fort Erie, and the Prince of Wales Stakes on Aug. 16 at Woodbine.
