Share

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said Monday that investigators were still trying to determine what caused a power line to fall, leading to the electrocution of a 69-year-old Van Nuys woman.

Zart Mgrdichian died about 6 a.m. Sunday when she attempted to move the 4,800-volt wire off her car while standing on a wet lawn, authorities said.

Police said the woman and relatives investigated a loud bang outside her house in the 13400 block of Victory Boulevard and found the wire over her car, giving off sparks.

On Monday, DWP line manager Bill Woodson said an investigation of the incident was continuing.

He said two wires were knocked down in the area, indicating something may have crossed both wires and knocked them down, or a foil balloon could have touched both and caused them to arc and fall, he said.
