ABOUT TIME: Local Lionette legend Shirley Topley, busy now coaching fast-pitch softball, says her players are excited about “A League of Their Own,” the Geena Davis/Madonna movie focused on a 1940s women’s pro baseball league. “It’s about time something like that came out,” she said. “I plan to see it, probably two or three times.” The Orange County Hall of Famer is friends with several women who played in that league. Topley recently returned from China, where she helped coach the U.S. women’s softball team that won the World Challenger Cup.
