Jury Deliberations

In response to “Judge Heeds Jurors’ Pleas, Orders Retrail,” July 2:

I read with interest how jurors can become mesmerized in the environs of the jury room. I have heard of jurors talking at lunch or in the hallways of different aspects of the case after having been advised by the judge not to discuss the case.

Why not use the “black box” concept used by airlines, after an accident, to record comments made in a jury room and held for possibly 90 days or until sentencing, whichever occurs first, before being destroyed? It would caution the jurors that regardless of their comments that they must be respectful of fellow jurors as well as the elimination of overt prejudices activated behind closed doors under the color of law.
