CAMARILLO : Councilman Smith to Seek Reelection

Share

After initially saying he would not run for reelection, Camarillo City Councilman David Smith has changed his mind.

Smith, 48, who is serving his first four-year term on the council, said earlier this year that he did not have time to be a councilman and run his financial planning business.

But Smith said this week that he has had some time to “get some energy after a hard year” as mayor last year.

“I like the job of councilman very much . . . being at the heart of what happens in the city,” said Smith, a Camarillo resident of 10 years. “I enjoy problem solving, and we certainly have some problems that the city needs to solve, with the financial repercussions of the state budget.”

Smith said he also believes the state of the local economy is an important issue the council will face in the future.

Councilman Michael Morgan’s term will expire this year as well. Morgan, who has served on the council for 12 years, has made no formal announcement about his plans and was not available for comment this week.

The election for the other three council seats, held by Mayor Stanley J. Daily, Charlotte Craven, and Ken Gose, will be in 1994.
