Firehouse Closes Doors, Will Become Museum
Once touted as the “largest firehouse west of the Mississippi,” a station in Hollywood closed its doors after 62 years Friday and will be turned into a museum.
Fire Station 27, at 1355 N. Cahuenga Blvd., went into service on July 1, 1930, said Los Angeles Fire Department Capt. Steve Ruda.
The 18,227-square-foot, two-story brick building at times housed up to two dozen firefighters and was often used by motion picture studios for filming, Ruda said.
The firefighters who used to work at the station will not be able to forget it. The will be working right next door, at 1333 N. Cole Ave.
