Colton’s Faria Wins Speedway Main Event

Mike Faria of Colton won the four-lap scratch main of the Orange County Fair Derby speedway motorcycle competition in front of 8,525 at the fairgrounds Friday.

It was the third time Faria has won the Derby; he also won in 1986 and ’87. Shawn McConnell of Brea was second, Andy Northrup of Ontario third and Gary Hicks of Riverside fourth.

Charlie Venegas of Costa Mesa won the eight-lap handicap main event. Hicks was second, Rob Pfetzing of Orange was third, Brad Oxley of San Juan Capistrano fourth and Faria fifth.
