Turnback The Alarm Wins American Oaks
Turnback The Alarm won her second consecutive Grade I race, scoring a 1 1/4-length victory in Belmont Park’s $250,000 Coaching Club American Oaks on Saturday.
The Florida-bred daughter of Darn That Alarm-Bonnie’s Girl had won the Mother Goose Stakes on May 23.
Easy Now, ridden by Mike Smith, was second in the field of six 3-year-old fillies, 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Pleasant Stage, ridden by Jerry Bailey.
Queen Of Triumph, Secretly and Perfect Gem completed the order of finish.
Turnback The Alarm, ridden by Chris Antley, covered the 1 1/4 miles in 2:03 1/5 and paid $4.80, $2.60 and $2.20 as the favorite. Easy Now paid $3.60 and $2.40, and Pleasant Stage returned $2.60.
Only her third-place finish in the Acorn Stakes, first in the New York Racing Assn.’s Triple Tiara series, prevented Turnback The Alarm from a sweep of the series for fillies. Turnback The Alarm has improved since trainer Red Terrill converted her from a front-runner to a come-from-behind horse.
Turnback The Alarm has won five of 14 career starts to go with five seconds and two third-place finishes.
