Franklin to Return: Gary Franklin and his Franklin scale of reviewing movies will soon be back on TV in Los Angeles, but on KCOP Channel 13. Jeff Wald, head of news at the station, said that Franklin will begin his new job as entertainment reporter on Aug. 3, and he’ll again use his well-known scale to rank films. Franklin had given 1-10 ratings--10 being best--to movies as a reviewer in Los Angeles since 1981 before quitting to go to work as a TV consultant in Germany last year. At that time he said he was no longer interested in reviewing movies. But after his experiences in Germany, he changed his mind. “I had six months of loneliness and non-recognizability, and I realized how lucky I was (in L.A.). I did not appreciate what I was able to do here,” Franklin told The Times. “As long as I could do reviews that exercise my social conscience, I wanted to get back on the air.”
