Rap Artists and Racism

It’s about time someone pointed this double standard out in print. Songs hateful to women, whether on radio stations or in frat houses, rap or drinking songs, are “just a joke” and not intended to influence behavior. When songs direct their anger against police and not women, then it’s no longer funny.

Clearly, this is a matter of power, not of content or offensiveness--not about freedom of expression. It’s a matter of power and what is perceived as a threat to that power.
