THOUSAND OAKS : Panel to Consider 2 Housing Proposals

Share

The Thousand Oaks Planning Commission today will consider two proposed housing developments that together would put 390 single-family houses on now-vacant properties in the northeast corner of the city and Newbury Park.

The commission’s first public hearing will be on a proposal by the Lang Ranch Co. to build 155 houses on 93.9 acres at the far north end of Westlake Boulevard.

The second public hearing will be on a proposal by Operating Engineers Pension Trust to build 235 houses on 273.1 acres at the former site of Dos Vientos Ranch in Newbury Park.

The total Dos Vientos site covers 2,331 acres, with the pension trust owning about 1,540 acres of the property and the rest owned by developer Court Lea Homes, said Jon Shepherd, a senior planner for the city.

Court Lea Homes has so far had two development projects approved for the site, although they have not yet begun construction, Shepherd said.

The trust’s development proposal is its first project for the Dos Vientos property, Shepherd said.

Residents have previously objected to proposals to develop both the Lang and Dos Vientos Ranch sites, mainly because of the additional traffic that would be generated.
