CAMARILLO : City Council Accepts Area Goals Report
The Camarillo City Council has accepted a report by a community group that calls for preserving the city’s small-town character and limiting commercial development.
The long-awaited report by the 42-member community goals committee recommends that the city maintain its greenbelts and establish a municipal golf course. The report also says farmland should only be developed when alternative sites cannot be found.
The report tells city planners that they should keep views in mind when reviewing development proposals and that they should try to provide a variety of housing opportunities for all income levels.
Council members forwarded the report last week to Planning Director Matthew A. Boden. Boden said city planners would decide what modifications need to be made to the General Plan in light of the report. Once changes are identified, Boden said, he would recommend that another citizen committee review them.
The community goals, used to update the city’s General Plan, are re-evaluated by a new committee about every five years.
