VENTURA : Continuation School Proposals Discussed

Share

Board members of the Ventura Unified School District Board will discuss a proposal tonight that would create three new continuation high schools to replace Mar Vista Continuation High School.

District officials proposed the reconfiguration to take advantage of state funding available to continuation programs that were formed after the passage of Proposition 13, according to a board summary.

Mar Vista, formed about 10 years before passage of Proposition 13, lost state funding when a new set of rules for small high schools was enacted after the measure was passed by California voters.

Moving students from Mar Vista to three smaller schools will eventually lead to a higher population in the continuation program through the establishment of an early intervention strategy for youth at-risk of dropping out of school, the summary said.

The board meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at Ventura City Hall, 501 Poli St.
