SPECIAL TO THE TIMES

The Pacific Symphony will honor season tickets purchased for the 1992-93 season of the recently dissolved South Coast Symphony.

Patrons who hold tickets for South Coast Symphony’s canceled five-concert series at the Irvine Barclay Theatre can receive tickets, at no additional cost, for the Pacific Symphony’s five-concert “Great Masterworks” series at the Orange County Performing Arts Center.

Alternately, South Coast Symphony ticket-holders can receive full value for their ticket purchase toward the Pacific Symphony’s full nine-concert classics series, of which the “Great Masterworks” series is a part.

A spokeswoman for the Orange County Philharmonic Society said the group, which presents visiting orchestras at the Center, is planning a similar offer, with details to be announced.

Facing a decline in ticket sales and corporate support, directors of the South Coast Symphony voted last month to cease operations.

“It’s very sad when an orchestra as talented as the South Coast Symphony goes out of business,” Janice Johnson, president of the Pacific Symphony Assn. board of directors, said in a prepared statement. “We felt an obligation to assist those loyal subscribers who have supported symphonic music in Orange County for many years.”
