LOS ANGELES : Council OKs Fines for Hosts of Loud Parties
The Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved a resolution Tuesday allowing police to bill hosts of loud parties $175 if they fail to heed a warning to quiet down.
The meter also will be running--at the rate of $8 a minute--if a police helicopter is needed to join in busting a loud bash.
Under the new law, which is expected to go into effect in 30 days, party hosts would first receive a written warning if police consider the festivities too noisy, city officials said. If officers must respond a second time, they will break up the gathering and bill the host.
The loud party service fee will apply only to chronic offenders, Los Angeles Police Lt. Dan Koenig said. The law is patterned after ordinances enacted in Fullerton, Palos Verdes and other communities.
