NEW YORK NOTES : A Catastrophic Warning

Share

Shortly after Bill Clinton addressed women’s political groups on Tuesday at the New York Hilton Hotel, actor Richard Dreyfuss rushed up to Clinton spokeswoman Dee Dee Myers with an urgent plea. “It would be a catastrophe” if the Clinton campaign agreed to allow former California Gov. Jerry Brown to speak at the convention without extracting an endorsement pledge from him. “I don’t know how else to put it, but he’s a loose cannon,” said Dreyfuss, left, who has volunteered to campaign for Clinton. “He would totally disrupt the convention.” A sheepish-looking Myers said she told the actor she would relay his concerns to the campaign, but offered no assurances. “All I can say is that everyone who has been cleared to speak has endorsed (Clinton).”
