Only Two Draft Choices Unsigned on Eve of the Rams’ Advance Camp

Although the two sides are talking, it appears that second-round pick Steve Israel will miss at least the first night of the Rams’ advance camp, scheduled to open today.

As of Tuesday night, only Israel and fourth-round pick Shawn Harper had not agreed to terms among the Rams’ 15 draft choices.

Gary Uberstine, Israel’s attorney, said negotiations continued Tuesday, but he did not foresee an agreement at least until today or later.

The Rams made their second offer Tuesday, and Uberstine said there was no chance he and Israel would accept it. The Rams are believed to be offering a three-year deal worth about $1.5 million, the same amount last year’s No. 2 pick, Roman Phifer, received.

Uberstine is apparently looking for something closer to $1.7 million over three seasons.

Two-a-day practices begin Thursday.
