Navratilova, Atlanta Thunder Next for Dukes
There are still tickets available for the Newport Beach Dukes’ match against the Atlanta Thunder, which features Martina Navratilova, at 7 tonight at the John Wayne Tennis Club.
“It looks like it’ll be close (to a sellout),” said Fred Lieberman, the Dukes’ owner/promoter. “As of Tuesday night, we had about 200 tickets (out of about 2,500) left.”
Lieberman also said he was uncertain whether the team would use Lise Gregory as a replacement for Katrina Adams, who underwent surgery Tuesday and will miss the rest of the season. Lieberman said he wants to speak with Coach Greg Patton before making a decision.
The Dukes (1-2) split two road matches, defeating Sacramento, 25-22, Saturday and losing to Vail, 27-24, Tuesday. Atlanta (4-1) is coming off a 30-14 loss to Sacramento Tuesday. Navratilova is the leading women’s singles player in TeamTennis, having won 29 of 46 games.
