Democratic Convention

Let me understand this correctly--Gov. Clinton selected Sen. Al Gore to be his running mate to shore up his own deficiencies in the areas of foreign affairs, civil rights, the environment, and family values. I also understand that Gore will play a different role than the traditional vice president. Where have I heard that before--perhaps from the last 20 or 30 presidential candidates at their political conventions! The vice president’s role in policy-making decisions becomes very secondary because of the influence played by the Cabinet and other advisers.

Clinton has to campaign on his own record--not on Gore’s. Or maybe he should just step down and let the better man be the candidate.
