It’s All in the Packaging

MAKEUP PACKAGING SO PRETTY YOU WON’T WANT TO LEAVE IT IN YOUR PURSE: If you’ve looked everywhere for truly elegant makeup containers, you can call off the search as of Oct. 15. That’s when a new compact and lipstick case by designer Robert Lee Morris, the hot-shot New Yorker known for clean, sculptural styles, will arrive at Elizabeth Arden makeup counters.

Morris, who also creates Donna Karan’s jewelry line and sells his own styles to stars such as Madonna and Jodie Foster, has come up with a sensual, disc-like compact ($75; refills $10) and a curvy, asymmetrical lipstick case ($30; refills $9.50). He’s even picked out six new lipstick colors for Arden to go with his lipstick case.

Morris’ daggers, crosses, hearts and chains have been knocked off around the world. I can’t wait to see his makeup shades (“Ember,” “Ritual Red,” “Revelation,” “Spirit,” “Mystique” and “Memory”) and whether he’s copied in the cosmetics world as well.

Saks Fifth Avenue branches will be carrying even more of his stuff in the fall: leather belts, dinnerware, handbags and, of course, more of his knockout jewelry.

DON KING, EAT YOUR HEART OUT: Troll dolls, those wild-haired, zombie-like creatures that appear on everything from pencils to headbands, are now turning up on bobby socks.

“Everybody wears them. Mothers are buying them for their kids and they’re coming back and buying them for themselves,” says Karen Bell, owner of K-Bell, a Culver City-based socks’ manufacturer.

Troll doll socks are $11 at Footsie (910 Montana Ave., Santa Monica). They come in one size, which fits 9-year-old kids through adults, and yes, the dolls are detachable.
