The alternative to term limits: Guess which inhabitants of City Hall were not notified of the evacuation Wednesday during the bomb scare outside Mayor Tom Bradley’s office?

The esteemed members of the City Council.

They were in executive session at the time, little knowing the peril they faced while courageously plotting the destiny of the city.

On Friday, Councilwoman Ruth Galanter introduced a motion demanding an explanation from city officials. “Ruth said it (the oversight) was either evil or incompetent,” spokesman Jeff Krueger said.

Or insulting. Galanter learned of the evacuation only when she left the session to look in vain for a reporter. Even the lowly inhabitants of the press room had been advised to leave the building.

Keeping an eye on the city fathers: Ron Harris of Culver City, thumbing through a 1933 guide to L.A., found a city office that, unfortunately, no longer exists. We suspect that City Hall wouldn’t be such a mess if a City Mother was still around to keep watch.

Almost as famous as Bette Davis’ eyes: One of L.A.’s contributions to design argot is revealed to the world in this month’s Smithsonian magazine. The publication profiles Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, the designer of L.A.’s Museum of Contemporary Art. It recounts how he plotted out the undulating aspect of the museum’s walls and railings by tracing over an “actress’ contours in a now classic nude photograph.” In her honor, Isozaki christened the feature the Marilyn Monroe Curve.

The show’s over: John De Simio of West L.A. noticed the accompanying ad in Friday’s edition of Variety.

The session was suddenly canceled. Why? Did we miss something?

Underwater spy cameras? If there’s any truth to one bizarre assertion in “L.A. Secret Police: Inside the LAPD Elite Spy Network”--that Dodger Manager Tommy Lasorda was under surveillance by the gendarmes--it would be ironic. And not just because the Dodgers also wear blue. Lasorda regularly swims at the L.A. Police Academy pool near Dodger Stadium.

Rain spoiled what was believed to be the first clothing drive by a nudist camp. So the Elysium Fields park in Topanga is holding another clothing drive this weekend for riot victims.
