Guard James FitzPatrick signed a one-year contract with the Raiders on Thursday night. No details were released.

The signing of Fitzpatrick leaves the Raiders with six unsigned players, including four starters: tailback Marcus Allen, linebacker Winston Moss, and cornerbacks Lionel Washington and Terry McDaniel.

The Raiders’ other unsigned players are wide receiver Tim Brown and cornerback Elvis Patterson, the Raiders’ best special teams player, who reportedly is close to an agreement.

Marvin Demoff, who represents Brown and McDaniel, said the main issue of negotiations is the lengths of their contracts, not the money.

Brown and McDaniel are hesitant to sign long-term contracts because of the NFL antitrust suit in Minneapolis, which could allow players to become free agents.

“I think we’re going to have to find a creative way to deal with the various possibilities,” Demoff said. “Both Terry and Tim want to be in camp, and the Raiders want them to be in camp.”

Defensive ends Greg Townsend and Scott Davis, who are under contract, did not report to camp by Thursday’s 7 p.m. deadline. Townsend signed a contract extension last year, and Davis signed a three-year deal after sitting out most of camp last year. In the second year of a five-year deal, Townsend is due to earn $1.2 million. Davis is due to earn $700,000 this season.

Guard Todd Peat, who lost 75 pounds, weighs 308 after an 11-week stay at the Duke weight and fitness clinic in Durham, N.C., during the off-season.

Peat said he ballooned to nearly 380 pounds after sitting out last season because of a knee injury.

He said the Raiders did not pressure him to lose weight.

“It was just a matter of learning how to eat,” Peat said. “Not to make an excuse, but sometimes you can be somewhat ignorant about your eating habits until you really take the time to learn about your body and learn about food. I have no excuse now.”
