Art Schlichter, quarterback for the Cincinnati Rockers of the Arena Football League who twice was suspended by the NFL for gambling, entered a plea of not guilty in Cincinnati to a charge of writing a bad check.
Schlichter, 32, of Fairfield, did not appear at the arraignment in Hamilton County Municipal Court. The plea was entered through his attorney, Merlyn Shiverdecker, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for July 30 before Judge Harry McIlwain. The maximum penalty for the fourth-degree felony is five years in jail and a fine of $2,500.
Schlichter was accused of writing a check for $3,000 in cash that was returned by a bank because the account was closed.
