‘Cop Killer’ Fingers Social Tension

Share

What Kent doesn’t understand about the domestic reactions to all the examples he lists (Mick Jagger, “RoboCop,” etc.) is that Americans don’t seem to mind if a cop/good neighbor is killed by the protagonist in the song/movie as long as the protagonist is also killed (i.e., “justice is done”).

Maybe there would have been no furor and there would have been lackluster sales had the last line of “Cop Killer” been: “And when I was through, the cops dusted me too!”
