Share

Storm drain catch basins in the San Fernando Valley are scheduled to be cleared of debris and vermin beginning later this month, Supervisor Ed Edelman’s office announced Wednesday.

The massive cleanup project involves 5,226 drains in San Fernando, Westlake Village, Van Nuys and some of the unincorporated areas of the Valley.

The work will be performed by Valley Wide Maintenance of Northridge and is expected to take about 45 days.

During the winter storms, catch basins all over Los Angeles were filled with debris, which decays and provides nesting spots for vermin.

The Valley project is part of a countywide effort to clear the debris and reduce the amount of polluted water running into the ocean.
