SANTA PAULA : Air Show to Feature Stunts and Displays
The skies over Santa Paula will be buzzing with stunt planes, skywriters and precision parachute teams this weekend as the Santa Paula Airport hosts the Santa Paula Airshow 92.
Admission is $3. Proceeds will benefit the Santa Paula Memorial Hospital.
Gates will open at 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday, well before the scheduled 1 p.m. start of the air show, for the public to view vintage aircraft on the ground and other aviation displays.
The event will feature skywriting, radio-controlled aircraft and will offer airplane rides by members of the National Women Pilots group, The 99’s.
Of special interest to aircraft buffs will be the flyby of vintage planes from the period when the Santa Paula Airport was built in 1930 through the 1940s. More than 50 vintage aircraft will be on display, including a DC-3, a P-51 Mustang and a Cobra helicopter.
The airport’s museum, food booths, static displays and commercial booths will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on both days.
The air show is from 1 to 4 p.m.
Following Saturday’s show, a $15 benefit dinner and dance will be held by the Santa Paula Rotary Club.
