San Diego : Repairs Finished at 5 Schools
Repairs have been completed in time for school to open next week at five San Diego elementary campuses where severe flaws in concrete roof support beams had made the buildings vulnerable to strong earthquakes.
The emergency repairs will allow the year-round schedules at Ericson, Penn and Walker elementary schools to begin on time next Wednesday, after two days for teachers to prepare their classrooms. School at Tierrasanta Elementary will begin Monday.
Classes at Mason Elementary, which were transferred three weeks ago to nearby Mira Mesa High, will resume at the regular school Wednesday. Moving crews will box furniture and books today for the trip back.
Work will now get under way at five remaining schools with similar structural problems in time for their opening on nine-month schedules in early September: Sandburg, Dailard, Green, Chesteron, Hickman and Spreckels.
