Six Oxnard teen-agers returning from a day’s outing at Six Flags Magic Mountain amusement park in Valencia were injured when the one driving the van in which they were traveling fell asleep and ran into an embankment on California 126, authorities said Sunday.

Cesar Herrera, 17, was driving his parents’ van when he fell asleep and the vehicle crashed into an embankment and overturned just east of Santa Paula near Boosey Road about 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to California Highway Patrol officers and Herrera.

The teen-agers were taken to Santa Paula Memorial Hospital.

Herrera was treated and released.

Monica Jurado, 15, was the most seriously injured among the passengers. Jurado, whom Herrera identified as his wife, was sitting in the passenger’s seat and suffered serious cuts to the face that required stitches, Herrera said.

Jurado was transferred from Santa Paula Memorial Hospital to Ventura County Medical Center, where she was in serious condition Sunday, a nursing supervisor said.

The other four passengers were sitting on three wicker chairs and a sofa in the back of the van that were not fastened down, Herrera said.

Claudia Marron, 16, who is five months pregnant, suffered multiple rib fractures, a nursing supervisor said.

“The fetus is fine,” said Linda Jordan, nursing supervisor at Santa Paula Memorial.

Victor Herrera, 13, Cesar’s brother, suffered a broken leg.

Danny Herrera, who is not related to the brothers, sustained a broken left ankle, Jordan said.

Claudia, Victor and Danny all remained at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

The other passenger, Jose Castellanos, 16, was treated for minor injuries and released, Jordan said.
