Sad Direction for Education
The July 2 Los Angeles Times contained two articles that illustrate the sad direction in which our legislators in Sacramento are leading us. The first concerned the governor’s recommended $2-billion cut in public education. The second reported about Tom Hayden’s law that may restrict Soka University (and other universities) from calling itself a university.
Cuts in education signal the slow death of the future of California. If anything, education must be our state’s first priority. The governor’s policy and Hayden’s admittedly special-interest legislation are obstructing education in our state.
Gov. Wilson is telling our children that California is willing to sacrifice their future. Tom Hayden is telling all future universities that higher education is not as welcome in California as it once was. No wonder the quality of life in our state is slowing deteriorating.
