IRWINDALE : 100 Firefighters Battle Commercial Building Blaze

Share

About 100 firefighters battled a three-alarm blaze in Irwindale at a commercial building that sent brilliant white fireballs and plumes of thick black smoke into the night sky Monday.

Cause of the fire in the 100-by-200-foot building in the 15500 block of East Arrow Highway was not known, said Los Angeles County fire dispatcher Al Jackson. There were no injuries, and no other buildings were threatened, Jackson said.

Two 55-gallon drums containing an unknown substance exploded at about 8:40 p.m., sending billowing white fireballs hundreds of feet skyward, Jackson said. The blaze began in a smaller structure used to store tires and wood, the dispatcher said.
