General Dynamics to Lay Off 5,800 Workers: The giant defense contractor has confirmed it will lay off 5,800 workers by the end of 1994 at its Ft. Worth division as part of a major restructuring. The company cited “declining defense budgets” and production cuts on its F-16 fighter aircraft. The layoff announcements will start in the next several weeks.
