Thinking of eating out, but can’t decide whether to dine on Mexican, Chinese or Italian cuisine?

Then try a little bit of everything today at the 4th annual “International Taste of San Pedro,” to be held at the Doubletree Hotel, 2800 Via Cabrillo Marina in San Pedro.

The San Pedro-Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and American Express are hosting the 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. event to showcase San Pedro’s diverse array of restaurants. San Pedro boasts that it probably has more restaurants per capita than any other town in California, according to the Chamber of Commerce.

At least 20 restaurants will be participating in this year’s event. In addition to Mexican, Chinese and Italian food, tasters will also have a chance to try Salvadoran, Australian, Caribbean-Cajun and European cuisine.

Admission is $4 for adults, $1 for children 2 to 12 years old; children under 2 can enter free. The admission fee gets you in the door. After that, tickets must be purchased for a dollar each. These are used to purchase food from the various restaurants’ booths.

Virtually all of the entree selections will be cooked and prepared on site. One ticket will get you a small serving of the entree dish. Enough of these servings from the many booths should add up to give tasters a good-size meal.

Organizers realize that no good meal is complete without dessert and something to wash it down. That’s why they have also invited several California wineries to the event as well as a bakery or two to provide such after-meal treats as eclairs, cream puffs and brownies.

Song and dance will also be provided, compliments of the International Children’s Choir, San Pedro’s Del Rubio Triplets, the oldies band Time Machine, and the strolling and singing Sweet Adelines. And for small people without big appetites, organizers will provide a Children’s Corner featuring magic, juggling, face-painting, balloon animals and more.
