COUNTERPUNCH LETTERS : An Artist Reflects Society

Not all of Ice-T’s critics missed the real target. One, Charlton Heston, whom Kuehl denigrates in her article, made a point of revealing the sleazy anti-female tirades on the “Body Count” album. He read the entire “lyrics” of one of them, “KKK Bitch,” to the assembled Time Warner shareholders.

I know because I heard it played three times over KFI radio. I did not, however, hear or even hear of this segment over television or see it in print. It was rather startling to listen to such words coming from the magnificent voice of Moses, Andrew Jackson, John the Baptist, but I am grateful to him for expressing this aspect of the album.

I agree with Kuehl’s opinion on this poisonous strain of music, she should just display a little caution before tarring everyone with the same brush. Heston endeavored to make the vile contents known; he can hardly be faulted if most of the media did not care enough to pick it up.
