An Italian powerboat, Destriero, reportedly set set a world record--by almost 29 hours--for crossing the Atlantic Ocean in an eastbound direction.

The Costa Smeralda Yacht Club, which sponsored the dash, claimed that Destriero passed an English lighthouse at Bishop Rock at just before 6:15 a.m. That would mean the speedboat’s voyage, which began Thursday from Ambrose Light in New York Harbor, lasted 58 hours 34 minutes 50 seconds.

That is 28 hours 40 minutes faster than the record claimed in 1990 by the British Hoverspeed.
