LOS ANGELES : Off-Duty Sheriff’s Deputy Fatally Wounds Himself
An off-duty sheriff’s deputy fatally wounded himself Tuesday while working as a security guard at an Eagle Rock department store, authorities said.
Deputy Tracey Newmon, 22, died at Glendale Adventist Hospital seven hours after the incident at the Montgomery Ward store in the Eagle Rock Plaza on Colorado Boulevard. Sheriff’s deputies said that Newmon had been cleaning his gun when it accidentally discharged. They said he had been on the force for only a year and was assigned to the department’s jail division.
He lived in Glendale.
