A 52-year-old man stabbed his wife repeatedly early Tuesday and then stabbed himself in the chest, critically wounding them both, police said.

Neighbors who heard the woman’s screams at 12:30 a.m. told police that Man Seong and Grace Seong, 50, had been arguing in their apartment on the 1200 block of South Nutwood Street.

When police arrived, both were outside of their apartment, semi-conscious and suffering from several stab wounds, Sgt. Chet Barry said.

“We haven’t been able to get enough of a statement to know what they were fighting about,” Barry said. “He was able to tell us that he was the one who did the stabbing and that he had also stabbed himself.”

So far, Man Seong has not been charged with a crime, and the case remains under investigation, Barry said.

He was listed in critical condition late Tuesday at UCI Medical Center in Orange. She also was in critical condition at Western Medical Center-Santa Ana with stab wounds in the upper body, Barry said.

“It happened about 30 feet away from our window,” said 16-year resident Anne Germaine. “We were asleep, and the screaming woke us up. We could hear that the woman was in much, much pain. She went out and sat on the walkway in front of her apartment and she was screaming.”

Germaine, who has lived in the apartment complex for 16 years, said most of the neighbors know each other well and “look out for each other.”

“If someone is in trouble, we help each other out,” she said. “But we didn’t know much about the background of these people because they had lived here for such a short time. We have never had any trouble here before, that’s why this is so shocking. This is a very, very nice place to live.”

The manager of the 81-unit apartment complex, which recently won a beautification award from the city, confirmed that the couple moved in only weeks ago.

She said there had been no problems or complaints about them.

“They were a very nice, a sweet couple. Lovely people.”

The incident marked the fourth time in seven days that a domestic dispute between a couple in Orange County has resulted in serious injury, suicide or homicide.

On Saturday, Kevin Tran, 23, allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend, Kim Anh Ngo, also 23, at the Huntington Beach video store he owned.

The day before, a Redondo Beach man, apparently distraught over a breakup with his former girlfriend, shot their infant son in her Huntington Beach apartment before killing himself. He also shot and wounded the former girlfriend.

And early last week, an Anaheim man, reportedly deeply troubled over the breakup of his marriage, died with his four children in a fire in the family home, which authorities suspect he set.
