Premature Infant in Stable Condition

Share

An infant girl who weighed 12 ounces at birth was in stable condition Tuesday, and doctors said they are pleased with her progress.

Sheyanne Danielle Welch was removed from the womb on Aug. 3 to save the life of her mother, who had been pregnant for just 24 weeks. Robin Welch, 37, of Anaheim suffered from Hellp syndrome, a condition in which pregnancy causes hypertension, elevated liver enzymes and low platelet levels, according to Gloria Morales, an associate neonatologist at Anaheim’s Martin Luther Hospital.

Hospital spokesman Dennis Gaschen said Tuesday that the baby is “doing fine.”

“She still is moving real well, still kicking and pushing with her arms as a baby would at that time” in the mother’s womb, he said.

Hospital officials plan to hold a press conference today to give an update on Sheyanne’s condition.

Welch was also in stable condition at the hospital, officials said.
