Catfish, Striped Bass Bite in Orange County

While trout go deep to find cool water at most Southern California lakes, catfish and hybrid striped bass are commanding attention at Anaheim and Irvine Lakes in Orange County.

Full Moon Madness VII is scheduled at the lakes Saturday, with night fishing for catfish from 5:30 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Also, starting Friday, Anaheim will be the only California fishery offering hybrid stripers--a cross between stripers and white bass from Aquatic Systems in San Diego. The fish will be stocked Thursday and anglers may start fishing for them Friday, with a limit of two. The fish, averaging 2-3 pounds with some up to 5, are reputed to be hard fighters and good eating.
