Sierra Madre : Installation of Stop Signs

The City Council voted Tuesday to hire a professional traffic engineer to determine whether four-way stop signs should be installed at Grandview and Auburn avenues and Auburn and Carter avenues.

Residents have asked for stop signs at those intersections several times over the past 18 months, citing danger to schoolchildren. Director of Public Works Kev Tcharkhoutian said stop signs would not solve problems. He recommended more speed-limit enforcement and extension of red no-parking zones.

Councilwoman MaryAnn MacGillivray asked that the engineer consider the unusual aspects of both intersections, such as irregular jogs in curbs and limited sight distance.
