A summary of significant Los Angeles City Hall decisions affecting the Westside in the last week. : CITY COUNCIL

* EGYPTIAN THEATRE: Approved a $1.65-million deposit in court for eminent domain proceedings involving the purchase of the Hollywood Egyptian Theatre. Also approved a maximum of $80,000 in attorney fees for the court proceedings.

* VENICE WALKWAYS: Councilwoman Ruth Galanter has introduced a proposal to preserve the pedestrian walkways in Venice. It would establish a policy protecting the walkways from being widened during development.

* GANG VIOLENCE: In an effort to discourage drive-by shootings near Venice High School, Galanter has introduced a proposal to close a street to traffic near the school. Galanter is proposing that Zanja Street be closed at Beethoven Street and at Lyceum and Walgrove avenues.

* REAPPOINT: Ronald S. Lushing has been reappointed to the Board of Harbor Commissioners. A commercial developer, Lushing lives in the Hollywood area. His term ends in 1997.

* BLOCK PARTY: Approved the temporary closure of several streets in the Crenshaw area for a block party from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The streets include 57th Street from Victoria Avenue to West Boulevard and Chesley Avenue from 57th Street to Slauson Avenue.

HOW THEY VOTED: How Westside representatives voted on selected issues.

* HIRED LAWYERS: Approved a proposal to spend $23,000 to pay outside attorneys for counseling the police board of rights and internal affairs officers during disciplinary proceedings on the officers who stood by and did not intervene during the Rodney G. King beating. The action was to prevent a conflict of interest between the city attorney’s office and the accused officers. Passed: 13-0. Voting yes: Marvin Braude, Galanter, Nate Holden, Mark Ridley-Thomas, Michael Woo and Zev Yaroslavsky. John Ferraro was absent.

* WATTS FESTIVAL: Approved the temporary closure of 53rd Street between Vermont Avenue and Hoover Street from 9:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday through Sunday for the Watts Summer Festival. Passed: 12-0. Voting yes: Braude, Ferraro, Galanter, Ridley-Thomas, Woo and Yaroslavsky. Holden was absent.

* GRANT REQUEST: Approved submitting an application for a $50,000 grant to the National Endowment for the Arts. The money would finance grants ranging from $250 to $3,000 to artists and cultural organizations “to encourage and support the healing process in communities affected by the recent unrest.” Passed: 12-0. Voting yes: Braude, Ferraro, Galanter, Ridley-Thomas, Woo and Yaroslavsky. Holden was absent.

* EAGLE ROCK: Approved a three-year extension of an agreement between the city and the state Department of Recreation and Parks to give the city more time to obtain additional money to buy Eagle Rock, the large rock overlooking the community. The city has $230,000 in state and city funds but needs about $270,000 more to buy the rock and surrounding land from private owners. Passed: 12-0. Voting yes: Braude, Ferraro, Galanter, Ridley-Thomas, Woo and Yaroslavsky. Holden was absent.
