Sting and his longtime live-in, Trudie Styler, are tying the knot in England on Aug 22. Tight-squeeze designer Gianni Versace is designing outfits for both. For her, a floor-length ivory satin gown with gold and pearl trim. For him, a neoclassic morning coat. It sounds like a serious lapse of leather and Lycra from the skin-show impresario, whose recent runway creations have included harness-top ball gowns for women and stretch pants in op-art prints for men.

* DANCES WITH FITNESS: The American Indian nation and a Reebok notion came together Thursday night in a new line of beaded workout wear, unveiled at the Reebok store in Santa Monica. It’s called the Lightfeather collection, and you can bet this is one you don’t already have at home. However, Goldie Hawn and Linda Gray do--both acquired the workout shoes early on, reports Denise Kaigler of Reebok. There are also T-shirts and caps beaded in traditional designs, all hand done by artist Melody Lightfoot and members of the American Indian Designer Collective. Prices range from $45 for a cap to $125 for shoes, with some one-of-a-kind footwear at $400.

* BEAUTIES ARE BUILT, NOT BORN: Cindy Crawford--top model, Revlon spokeswoman and Richard Gere’s wife--didn’t get where she is today without help. For two years she has worked out with New York trainer Radu Teodorescu, also known as the “killer whale.” Crawford will share Radu’s techniques with anyone willing to pay $19.99 for her “Shape Your Body Workout,” due in video stores Sept. 30. “I have fat days . . . and ugly days,” she recently told Mademoiselle magazine. “I have to work out. Some models don’t, but I’m not one of them.” In addition to 100 minutes of Cindy in a body-baring swimsuit, leotard and shorts, there is a bonus from Revlon: $10 in cosmetic coupons and a $5 cash rebate offer.

* LAUDED LANDSCAPES: You might not think twice about seeing the Lauder name on a tube of lipstick. But on an exhibit of scenic photographs? That’s next from the family that brought you Clinique, Prescriptives, Origins and, of course, the Estee Lauder line. Daughter-in-law Evelyn, a company vice president, unveils her first show next month. She says the corporate Christmas card has long featured her landscape scenes, from Aspen to Hawaii. Now, New York’s Holly Solomon gallery will do the same, with a book to follow by Harry N. Abrams publishers. “Ansel Adams is one of my heroes,” says the 30-year amateur shooter.

* SINCEREST CUT: The ‘50s haircuts in the off-Broadway musical “Forever Plaid,” playing at the Canon Theatre in Beverly Hills, aren’t for sale. This is an inside job by David Engel, who plays Smudge, one of four cute musicians caught in limbo. Every three weeks Engel cuts six heads of hair, including his own--which he does with with the aid of three mirrors. When he’s done, “there’s a big pile of hair and I have to vacuum it all up.” He doesn’t get help and he doesn’t get cash, so what does he get? “Gratification,” he says. And credit in the playbill for “hair maintenance.”

* T-TIME: With opening ceremonies for the Republican National Convention slated for Monday, a recent T-shirt exhibit at New York’s FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) art gallery comes to mind. The show was titled “VOTE: The 1992 Election in T-Shirts” and the shirt voted most popular was a reproduction of artist Edvard Munch’s “The Scream,” which carried the inscription, President Quayle.
