LOS ANGELES : Baby Delivered Unhurt After Mother Is Shot

Share

A pregnant woman was shot outside a Southwest Los Angeles service station Monday night in an apparent robbery attempt, leading doctors at Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center to induce labor and deliver the baby early, police reported.

The woman, whose identity was not being released by police, was shot in the abdomen by two men shortly before 8:30 p.m. at the station, located at Vernon Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard, said Los Angeles Police Lt. Doug Young. She was seven or eight months’ pregnant, he said.

The baby, a boy, was listed in guarded condition on Tuesday but Young said that was “only because it was taken before it was full-term” and that the baby was not injured in the shooting as doctors had feared. The woman was in satisfactory condition.
