SAN CLEMENTE : Pipeline Section’s Completion Marked
While it won’t solve future drought problems, the new Pico Pipeline will provide a more reliable water supply for residents and businesses of San Clemente and Dana Point, officials said Wednesday.
In a special “ground closing” ceremony, officials with Tri-Cities Municipal Water District and South Coast Water District celebrated the completion of the first, $2.4-million section of the pipeline, which stretches about two miles along Avenida Pico from La Pata Avenue to Interstate 5.
The first section of the Pico Pipeline, which will carry water from a Santa Margarita Water District pipeline, should be sending about 4,480 gallons of water per minute into San Clemente starting this morning, Tri-Cities General Manager Ray Woodside said.
For years, the two cities have relied on only one main pipeline to bring water from central Orange County.
