Culver City : Plan for Washington Blvd.
City officials laid the groundwork for revitalizing a blighted stretch of Washington Boulevard in East Culver City on Monday by approving a program that includes financial incentives, street-scape improvements and zoning changes.
Aging buildings and open car lots will give way to pedestrian-friendly, brick-lined sidewalks with canopy-style trees and rebuilt storefronts if the program approved by the Redevelopment Agency is successful.
The plans target Washington Boulevard between National Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue.
According to the Design for Development, new and rehabilitated buildings should abut the front property line in order to maintain the existing line of storefronts. Parking should be provided in back or underground.
Open car lots will not be permitted. Existing car dealerships will be required to house cars indoors.
Financial assistance will be given to businesses that revamp their storefronts. The Redevelopment Agency already set aside $250,000 for a matching-funds program.
